Question 1

What is the Difference Between Synthetic and Plant-Derived Nicotine?

Accepted Answer

Synthetic nicotine is made in a lab without using tobacco, generally using chemical reactions. Meanwhile, producers of plant-derived nicotine extract nicotine from the tobacco plant. They generally have different chemical structures, but most people can’t notice the difference, and both processes result in tobacco-free products.

Question 2

What Plant is Nicotine Derived From?

Accepted Answer

Nicotine comes from the tobacco plant (Nicotiana tabacum).

Question 3

Is There a Natural Form of Nicotine?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Nicotine occurs naturally in tobacco plants, as well as in much smaller amounts in plants like tomatoes and potatoes. However, there's a difference between naturally occurring nicotine and so-called "natural nicotine pouches". While some pouches contain nicotine extracted from tobacco plants (like the ones in our product listings above), that doesn't make the finished product entirely natural. After all, there's more to a nicotine pouch than just nicotine! Other ingredients include plant-based fibres, flavourings and sweeteners.

Question 4

What is the Purest Form of Nicotine?

Accepted Answer

Generally, when people talk about “pure” nicotine, they are referring to lab-made nicotine since it goes through intensive filtering. However, no nicotine is 100% pure.

Question 5

Which Nicotine Pouches Are Plant-Derived?

Accepted Answer

Some nicotine pouch brands offering plant-derived products include ZYN, Rogue, VELO, and On!

Question 6

What is the Healthiest Form of Nicotine?

Accepted Answer

Ultimately, regardless of the source of nicotine, there is no real evidence that the two types of nicotine have a different impact on the body. The two have the same potential side effects as all nicotine products, such as nausea and increased heart rate.
